Saturday Blog Hop: Embossing Folder Technique

Hello! Thanks for joining us on our Create with Stamping Friends Saturday Blog Hop! Last week's theme we kept it simple with one layer cards, so I made up for it this week on my card featuring an Embossing Technique. I really enjoy it when we focus on a technique as it always pushes me out of my comfort zone a bit.

Stampin' Up! Happy Hibiscus Bundle

Materials Used

These were the main inspiration for my card:

  • Bundle: The 'Happy Hibiscus' Hybrid Embossing Folder. I just love this bundle, it helps you to create such beautiful, fun, tropical cards.

  • Colour Combo: Pool Party, Flirty Flamingo and Lemon Lolly.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Card Base:

    1. Cut Thick Basic White cardstock to 8 1/2" x 5 1/2". Score in half at 4 1/4".

    2. Cut Two-Tone Pool Party cardstock to 4" x 5 1/4".

      1. Emboss paper with the folder.

      2. To create a little interest, add Pool Party ink with a blending brush over the areas that were embossed. Then, you can sand off a bit to reveal the white core of the two-tone cardstock for a bit of a distressed look.

  2. Decorative Elements:

    1. Cut out a circle from Lemon Lolly Cardstock with the Spotlight on Nature Dies.

      1. Then emboss with your favourite folder. I used the retiring Cane Weave 3D Embossing Folder.

      2. Add to centre of card with dimensionals.

    2. Stamp flowers in Grey Granite. If you like, you can also put these in the hybrid embossing folder to add a bit of texture to the flowers.

      1. Colour with Flirty Flamingo and Lemon Lolly Stampin' Blends.

    3. Add some Granny Apple Green ink to Basic white cardstock with a Blending Brush and then cut out 3 leaves with the dies.

    4. Add flowers and leaves on top of circle.

  3. Sentiment:

    1. Heat emboss in white on Summer Splash cardstock, then cut out with label die.

    2. Add onto card with dimensionals.

    3. If desired, cut about 18" of twine, loop it back and forth a couple times and add it behind the sentiment.

    4. Add gems! I used the 'Rainbow Dots' as they were the perfect matching colours for this card.
